Our Board & Staff

The ACHPER SA Board is a voluntary board of 10 members, including two Co-Presidents and a Vice-President. The Board's role is to provide strategic direction and fiscal guidance to the SA branch.

 

 

Craig Fosdike OAM - Co-President, LMACHPER

Craig is the principal of St Martin de Porres Catholic School. Teaching since 1979, Craig’s contribution to Catholic Education and to Health and Physical Education has been immense, and in 2022 he was presented the highest honor within ACHPER as a Life Member. He is also Life Member of SACPSSA (South Australian Catholic Primary School Sports Association). He has previously been principal of St Joseph’s Memorial School, Norwood and St Anthony’s School, Edwardstown. On the King's Birthday, 2023, Craig received an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for his service to primary education. Craig is an outstanding advocate for ACHPER and a dedicated leader.

 

 

Carlee Mitchell - Co-President, FACHPER

Inspired by her primary PE Teacher, Carlee has always been passionate about pursuing a career as a PE Teacher and educator. The ability to support young people in achieving their potential is what drives Carlee to promote lifelong wellbeing. As a member of the Senior Executive Team at her current school, Carlee brings a skill-set to ACHPER SA in leadership, strategic-planning, and policy development, in addition to curriculum knowledge in Physical Education, Health and Wellbeing, and experience in sports coaching. Carlee was awarded a prestigious National Fellow award of ACHPER in 2021 and won the 2022 Howard Mutton Memorial Award (Secondary Excellence in HPE).

 

 

Kylie Newbold - Vice-President, FACHPER

Kylie is a Primary Physical Education Teacher as well as Assistant Principal. Having worked in a range of metropolitan South Australian schools, Kylie brings experience as a primary school specialist PE teacher. Kylie has a passion for all children having the opportunity to experience a quality physical education program.  She also enjoys the opportunities to present to teachers at conferences, workshops and within partnerships to enhance the quality of PE teaching in our primary schools, as she loves learning with and from others. In 2021, Kylie was presented the highly regarded Fellow of ACHPER, recognising her contributions to ACHPER.  

 

 
 

Alexander Holbrook - MACHPER

With a passion for Curriculum and Pedagogy, and seeking to improve his own teaching practice by collaborating with others, Alexander enjoys creating content that is relevant and engaging so students can take their skills out into the world post-secondary school. A Secondary educator at Cardijn College, Alexander is passionate about making HPE relevant. He enjoys working in teams with teachers and developing the capacity of our teachers, especially early career teachers to learn from one another. Alexander believes ACHPER is a community of like-minded people where we can come together to learn but also implement our learnings into our primary and secondary schools. Coming from NSW, Alexander has appreciated what ACHPER gave to him in his first few years of teaching and he is looking forward to be able to build upon what ACHPER SA has already created. 

 

 

Christian Grocke - MACHPER

As a lecturer in Health and Physical Education at Flinders University, Christian has a strong passion for health education within the HPE learning area, and supporting students to develop a strong sense of holistic wellbeing. As an ACHPER SA board member, Christian brings a tertiary level perspective to aid in the connection between schools and future educators, and enables a strong link to health and wellbeing. Christian joined the ACHPER SA Board in 2022 and is passionate about promoting Health Education and Engagement with our broader community, especially early career educators.  

 

 

Katie Liebelt - MACHPER

Katie is currently the Assistant Principal at Clare High School. An advocate for movement and sport, Katie is a key regional coordinator for sport in the Clare Valley. Katie is a very passionate advocate for active and healthy living, and is involved as a leader in a number of community settings. Winner of the 2017, ACHPER SA Excellence in HPE award (Secondary) Katie is a highly regarded presenter at ongoing ACHPER conferences.

 

 

Nick Warren - MACHPER

With 15 years teaching experience in Health and Physical Education, Nick has a passion and believes that all students are capable of finding a physical activity for life. Planning for the future for students to consider what physical activities they will be involved in later in life is also an integral focus of his. A keen interest and knowledge in Curriculum, Pedagogy & Assessment was uncovered in his early career when he led a state-wide physical activity program. As an author and with an interest to keep learning, Nick continues to want to improve himself but also others that he works with. Being an ACHPER Board Member, he aims to connect with those in the industry who quite often can feel isolated in their schools and help them solve some of these complex issues. 

 

 

Rachael Wilkins - MACHPER

Originally from Victoria, Rachael comes to us with a variety of experience across both primary and secondary school physical education. Spending the last five years at Westminster school, two of those as Head of HPE, Rachael brings to the board a strong focus on the new Stage ½ course and middle years PE. Rachael is a movement advocate, encouraging students to seek physical activity in a way that is meaningful to them and enhances their wellbeing. As a board member Rachael advocates for the engagement of teaching professionals, supporting the development of resources and education as a regular presenter at ACHPER SA conferences.

 

 
 

Sam Rossi - MACHPER

Sam Rossi is a former Physical Education Teacher and now currently the General Manager of Education and Programs at AFL Max. Specialising in Primary and Middle School Health and Physical Education, Sam now leads, designs and implements new offerings and initiatives for AFL Max, including Australian curriculum aligned programs, school camps, school sports days and student leadership programs. Sam is passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of Australian students through fun and active education experiences.

 

 

Shane Hill - MACHPER

Shane Hill, Head of Learning Analytics (R-12) at Wilderness School, brings deep contemporary knowledge and understanding of curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment to the ACHPER SA Board. Joining the board in 2019, Shane is passionate about equipping students with the skills and dispositions to thrive now and in their futures. With a career as an exercise physiologist, expertise as a teacher, and leadership as a director of sport provides valuable insights into the current landscape of sport, and education in South Australia. As a board member, Shane actively contributes to shaping the direction of ACHPER SA, promoting the importance of HPE and its transformative power in students' lives throughout South Australia.

Staff

 

Matt Schmidt - Executive Director

Matt Schmidt is a successful results-oriented leader with extensive experience in education, event delivery, sports management, business development, marketing and sponsorship. Matt has over 25 years experience with strategic planning and in delivering effective governance leadership. Matt has been the Executive Director of ACHPER SA since 2000. Matt is passionate about raising the profile of Health and Physical Education and Sport in Schools and Community settings. Matt is an advocate for active healthy living and has highly regarded established networks across Australia.

Matt has strengths in Governance, stakeholder management, marketing, project management, and over 10 years of Directorships of various public, private and not for profit organisations including Squash South Australia, South Australian Cricket Association-Game Development, Uni SA Sport- Chair and past President Concordia Old Collegians Cricket Club. Matt joined the Squash Australia Board in 2019 and was elected President in 2022.

 

 

Rick Baldock - Professional Learning Officer

Rick has had a distinguished career and prior to working at ACHPER SA, worked as a primary PE and classroom teacher and Department for Education Health & Physical Education (HPE) Curriculum and Policy Officer. Rick led a small team in the development of a Physical Education curriculum in the Arabian Gulf State of Qatar in 2008. He has also worked at the University of SA commercialising research.

Rick has co-authored and authored a number of publications including the Sport It fundamental sport skill resource, ACHPER PEP Fitness resource and the Tennis Australia Hot Shots in Schools program. He is a regular presenter both internationally and nationally on various aspects of HPE and sport. A highly regarded Health & Physical Education professional, Rick has managed projects for ACHPER SA with Sport Australia, Squash Australia, Netball Australia, Tennis Australia, AFL Max, SA Little Athletics, Department for Education and various other community initiatives.

  
 

Amanda Burnett - Events & Communications Coordinator

Amanda has worked at ACHPER SA since 2019 and brings her expertise as an Events Manager for major events including Mother’s Day Classic, Tourrific Prospect, VACSWIM, Corporate Cup and Tour Down Under Family Days. At ACHPER SA, Amanda coordinates professional learning as well as managing the Corporate Cup and finance. Amanda critically understands and values the important role of ACHPER and her experience and dedication is central to the association's ongoing successes. Amanda offers professional friendly service to members and is a most valued part of the ACHPER SA staff. 

 

Isabelle Stuart - Events & Administration Officer

Isabelle began working with ACHPER SA as a casual in July 2023 for the Corporate Cup and joined the office team in January 2024. Working part-time, her main roles include membership, social media and supporting the office with event and administration tasks. Isabelle is currently studying a Bachelor of Business (Sport and Recreation Management).

Volunteers

ACHPER SA relies on our dedicated volunteers who give their time to help others and support the work of our organisation.
